Starting in Crested Butte allowed us to do the climb first while fresh, then finish with a faster descent into Aspen. That made the route feel smoother and more rewarding.
The flow felt right:
- Technical climbing first
- Scenic summit reward in the middle
- Faster downhill finish into Aspen
For me, this was the better direction for the Pearl Pass trail.
How Difficult Is Pearl Pass?
Pearl Pass Colorado is not a beginner route.
